OUR INSTRUCTOR ÖMER DİLEK ATTENDED THE FOREST SCHOOLS WORKSHOP

The workshop organized for the purpose of Establishing Forest School Legislation, Curriculum and Practices of the General Directorate of Forestry within the scope of the Climate-Resilient Forestry Project (İDOP) was held in Antalya on November 18-20, 2024. The workshop was attended by many experts working within the Ministry of National Education, academicians from different universities and practitioners working in the General Directorate of Forestry. The aim of the workshop was to develop the capacity of OGM Forest Schools together with the Ministry of National Education and universities and to transform them into an institutional structure in order to establish legislation, curriculum and practices.

General Director of Forestry Bekir Karacabey, who made his speech at the opening, said, “Our forests play a critical role not only for the protection of natural life, but also for social sustainability and for future generations to live in a healthy environment. However, due to increasing urbanization, climate change and unconscious human activities, our forest ecosystems are under great threat every day. Therefore, we aim to raise a conscious generation by carrying out awareness activities for children and young people in forest schools to be held within the scope of the Climate-Resilient Forestry Project and by addressing issues such as love of nature, forest ecosystems and the importance of biodiversity. We want our children to recognize bird sounds and tree needles so that they love them, and to love them so that they protect them. Through this workshop, we will develop new ideas for the future of our forest schools, share experiences and together we will take important steps towards protecting our country's forests."

The 3-day workshop ended with the reading of workshop reports on Wednesday, November 20.
